Frequently Asked Questions

What does a heat shrink gun do?

A heat shrink gun is a tool used to apply heat to shrink-wrap film, causing it to tightly conform around a product or pallet for secure packaging. It works by directing hot air onto the shrink film, making it shrink and form a protective, tamper-resistant seal.

These guns are gas-powered, providing a high level of heat output for efficient and fast shrink-wrapping. They are commonly used in industries like logistics, retail, and manufacturing to protect goods from dust, moisture, and damage during storage or transport.

How do you use a heat shrink gun?

Gateway Packaging provides Ripack heat shrink guns, designed for efficient and secure shrink-wrapping of pallets and products. Using a Ripack heat shrink gun is simple, but following the correct steps ensures safety and the best results.

How to Use a Ripack Heat Shrink Gun

  1. Prepare Your Work Area

Ensure your workspace is clear of flammable materials and well-ventilated.
Place the shrink-wrap film over the product or pallet, ensuring full coverage.

  1. Connect to a Gas Cylinder

Attach the Ripack heat gun’s hose to a propane gas cylinder and secure all connections.
Slowly open the gas valve to allow gas flow.

  1. Ignite the Heat Gun

Press the gun’s trigger to ignite the flame using its built-in ignition system.
Adjust the heat settings if necessary, following the manufacturer’s guidelines.

  1. Apply Heat to the Shrink Film

Start at the bottom of the pallet or product and work your way up.
Hold the gun 30 to 50 cm (12 to 20 inches) from the film and move in a sweeping motion for even shrinking.
Continue heating until the film tightens securely around the load.

  1. Turn Off and Store

Turn off the gas supply when finished and allow the gun to cool.
Disconnect the hose and store the heat gun in a dry, safe place.

A Ripack heat shrink gun provides a fast and reliable way to secure pallet loads, protecting them from dust, moisture, and damage during transport.
